I first started creating art as a way to explore and communicate complex societal issues, particularly around gender and inequality. My work is driven by a desire to make the invisible visible—to highlight the barriers that often go unnoticed but have a profound impact on people’s lives.
Recently, I have been focusing on the concept of the glass ceiling, using physical materials to develop visual metaphors that challenge perceptions. I enjoy working with translucent screens that cast shadows when interacted with, symbolising the hidden yet pervasive obstacles women face. My inspiration often comes from literature, such as Invisible Women, and real-world social structures that shape our daily experiences.
Colour plays a significant role in my practice, acting as both an aesthetic and conceptual tool to engage viewers and provoke thought. I am particularly drawn to tactile, interactive elements that invite participation, reinforcing the idea that societal change requires action. My work is a reflection of my curiosity, my drive to question norms, and my passion for storytelling through visual forms.
Falling Girl was featured in the 2023 exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery during Frieze Week and was nominated for the New Blood Art Prize. The piece explores the struggles against societal pressures, symbolised by a figure in freefall. Through the use of light, shadow, and a translucent screen, it represents the glass ceiling, inviting viewers to reflect on the unseen forces shaping women’s experiences.
